GOLF COURSE CONSTRUCTION

Based upon years of involvement with Martin Moore and his Flagstick team over many, many projects, I can say that there is no construction management company that comes close to their professionalism and efforts. Martin and I go back many years and have completed over 50 courses together all over the world including all 22 courses for the Mission Hills Group in China, all of which were built at a very high standard and often on exceptionally difficult sites at breakneck pace. He is, without doubt, the most dedicated and talented construction manager in the business today and has the best team of individuals with long crafted specific skills that ensure great results. Martin, Gavin and his team are there to perform at the highest level, often on the most difficult sites and fast timeframes, and always produce great results. There may be competitors, but none come close to the excellence that Flagstick brings to every job. It is with my highest recommendation possible that, on all my projects in the Asia-Pacific region, I introduce Martin and his team whenever possible.

I have had the pleasure and privilege of knowing Martin Moore and Gavin Reid collectively for over 25 years. Throughout this time, as a Nicklaus Designer, I have collaborated with Flagstick on projects in several countries across Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. Their professionalism stands out in every facet of their work, including project management, construction supervision, value-engineering, agronomy, and irrigation. The team at Flagstick comprises a roster of highly experienced managers, team leaders and shapers, which consistently provides me, with peace of mind on every project. With every project I have undertaken with Flagstick, the results have been outstanding. Without exception, each project has been completed on schedule, within budget, and to the highest possible standards. I happily endorse Flagstick to every client who is engaged with Nicklaus Design.

In 2002, Mission Hills Golf Club engaged the services of Flagstick to undertake a challenge that had never occurred before: build five championship golf courses on severe mountainous China terrain, all at the same time. Martin immediately established a team of experienced, professional Asian, U.S. and local personnel enabling us to achieve this monumental task. End result: from the time we first broke ground, the construction of all five golf courses was 100% complete, under our originally estimated budget, and open for play in 15 months. Thanks to Martin’s efficient/adaptable management skills, international golf course construction experience, and excessive contacts within the industry, Mission Hills Golf Club has become the largest golf resort in the world, now with 10 world-class championship golf courses.

Pulte Homes has engaged Flagstick and Martin Moore on several projects. They are excellent project leaders; they are collaborative, creative and honest. We rely upon the “can do” attitude that they bring to the entire project team. When we have Martin and his team on a job, it comes in on time and on budget.

Martin Moore and the entire Flagstick team were very instrumental in the successful construction of Amata Spring Country Club, now home of the annual Europe vs. Asia Royal Trophy tournament. Flagstick’s detailed organization and planning enabled the golf course construction process to operate smoothly and trouble-free, allowing me to focus on other important non-golf aspects of the project with no worries. Martin’s international experience and ability to adapt to local cultures were key contributing factors to this success. Martin and I first worked together more than 10 years ago constructing the famous Jack Nicklaus Signature Mountain Course at Spring City Golf & Lake Resort, Kunming, China. We both share the commitment to both quality and professionalism, and the results speak for themselves. I hired Martin Moore and Flagstick to oversee construction of Twin Creeks Country Club in Cedar Park, Texas in 2000. Martin oversaw all phases of the project from preparing bid documents, reviewing and comparing bids, and the golf course construction itself. Martin was also responsible for billing approval and administration of all contractor pay applications and change orders. Twin Creeks was a very difficult construction project as we faced a 50-year and a 100-year rain event immediately after grassing. Without Martin and his industry contacts, the course opening would have been detrimentally delayed. Having Flagstick on our team was certainly a prudent decision.

Nicklaus Design appointed Martin Moore as their on-site coordinator during the construction of the Jack Nicklaus signature golf course at Spring City Resort in 1995 – 1996. Martin’s ability to convert Nicklaus’ drawings and design philosophies to our native site is a big reason why Golf Digest continues to rank Spring City as the top golfing resort in China, year after year. Martin always displayed a positive “team player” attitude and was the definite teacher and leader for our entire staff. Since the very beginning Martin was very influential in setting the first-class standards for Spring City Resort, and because of this his roots will remain here forever.
